"Write a algebraic expression for each statement given below. Let x represent the unknown quantity in each one." The actual problem is "Triple the sum of 4 and a number." How would you write that?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

3(x+4)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Would 3 x 4x work too or no?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no that does not mean the same that means triple the product of 4 and a number

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ahhhh

OpenStudy (anonymous):

4x means the product of 4 and x , or 4 multiplied by x

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yeah dint think of that thanks.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no probs - note that x+ 4 is put in brackets - the sum is done before the multiplication
