How would you divide 4/5 by 2? Would it become 8/10 or some other fraction? And then would squaring it just go right across each?
(4/5)/2-=(4/5)*1/2=2/5
dividing fraction hmmm....|dw:1314835833212:dw|
spose i give you 1/3 of this pizza; and you split it in half to give to your friend ...

when you split your 1/3 in half; you now have a part that equals 1/6
4/5÷2 is like 4/5 ÷2/1. when you divide fractions, you should flip the 2nd fraction and multiply. so the problem becomes 4/5 x1/2. you can just mutiply the tops and bottoms and get 4/10 and then reduce to 2/5. Or you can cancel out the 4 on the top with the 2 on the bottom if you would like. the 4 on top becomes 2 on top and the 2 on the bottom becomes 1. then multiply
it works that way for any fractions; to divide them up, the bottom gets bigger and the top stays the same
4/5 --- = 4/10 2
3/x --- = 3/2x 2
1/2 ---- = 1/6 3
Thank you for all the answers, extremely helpful. But how do you square a fraction? I totally have no idea how to do that part
multiplying is simple and straight forward .... top to top and bottom to bottom

squareing something means you multiply it by itself
But if it's a fraction and I'm multiplying out 2/5 by 2/5, that couldn't give me 4/10 would it?
