wat causes the numbness in our body?why is it like if we sit 4r a long time,we feel numbness in our legs?and sumtimes wen u sit crosslegged,4r a long time, and change ur posture,u can feel sum warmth on ur legs?
well, the warmth,i mean internally in ur leg?
the two most common causes are 1. lack of blood supply 2. compression of the nerve when you sit crosslegged for a long period of time, those sharp angles from your back to your thigh, from your thigh to your lower leg, etc makes it more difficult for blood to flow through leading to the numbness. same idea with the nerve compression, the sharp angles impinges the nerve and can cause the numbness.
Okay, been some time! thuc gets it right about the blood flow part. Blood apart from supplying tissues with oxygen also helps maintain a uniform temperature all throughout. It flows through just about everywhere & since it's almost all water it's great at absorbing excess heat & warming up the cooler regions. When you don't let the blood flow through a region, that part doesn't get enough oxygen. It can't "breathe". Oxidation of glucose doesn't happen. So, no heat is released. Since the outside is much cooler, the available heat seeps out. Which is why numb legs are cooler than otherwise. When you stretch the legs back to normal, the blood can now flow again. It is around 8 degrees (on an avergae) warmer than the outside. This is why you feel warm. I have something to ask: Why does it hurt, when your legs have been numb for a wile & then you stretch them ?
@mano-mayb becuz of the compression of the nerve like hww thuc said?well, but i don't knw how tat happens?@thuc-cud u plzz elaborate on tat,if ya don't mind?
thuc & yuktha, if you pinch a nerver you'll know. Right when you twist yourself into an awkward position, you don't quite know untill you try to move your feet and they're numb. They move, but motion is impaired b'coz the muscles dont have oxygen (?) and you know something's wrong. I expected one of you to say that, the nerve endings relay the heart beats from the capillaries as the tingling we feel. Though, this is entirely my idea. Someone say something!
i don't understand all this???????????????
