It is an awkward construction. The first clause seems fine, there was not chance of this being a convivial visit. Some implication that something more acrimonious was about to happen. But what does your alacrity have to do with convivialism? I think you meant, there was no chance this was going to be a convivial visit so you were in no hurry to make it happen? That is why you used the word alacrity? Play around with it a little.
