find 3 consecutive odd intergers such that 5 times the sum of the first and the third was 108 greater than twice the opposite of the number. help!!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Say the first number is n then the next three are n+2 and n+4. So putting them into the equation in the question: 5(n + n + 4) = 108 + 2 ??? 108 greater than twice the opposite of the number The only part in the question I don't understand is what they mean by the opposite of the number.

cant help you

OpenStudy (anonymous):

opposite of a number means the it's negative (e.g.: opposite of 5 is -5). But not clear which number they mean.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

that's what I was confused about as well.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Maybe they mean the number is: 5(2n+4)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

but that doesnt work out nicely
