We say that sound travels faster in denser medium, but when we cover our ears tightly with our hands (having solid bones and liquid blood which are denser than air) we cant hear anything . Why is it so??
see speed doesnt have to do anything with the intensity when u close ur ear intensity reduces and time will inc prob but we cant meausre it until we have sophisticated tool :) see i=ka*a and speed = frequency * wavelength see i is independent of speed
what does i=ka*a mean??
If you recall, sound is kinetic energy in the form of a wave or vibration moving through the molecules of a substance. In order to hear a given sound that energy must be transferred to one's eardrum and eventually the inner ear bones and so forth. If you cover your ears with your hands that energy is being absorbed and dissipated by the matter of which your hands are composed, therefore reducing the intensity of sound that reaches your inner ear.
