3x^2-5x+2=0

OpenStudy (anonymous):

(3x - 2)(x - 1) x = 1, 2/3

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Do i need both of those answers? or do i only need (X=1)?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

both, because it's a quadratic so it crosses the x-axis twice

OpenStudy (anonymous):

In what situation would you need only one answer?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

If you have a linear function ( 0 = ax + b where a and b are numbers)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

you can have them on quadratics in very specific times such as x^2 = 0. In this case it "bounces off" the x-axis|dw:1315241548197:dw|

I thought that if one of the answers was negative, then you would only write down the positive answer?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

nope, if you have two then generally you want to write down both of them. The only times you wouldn't is if they only ask for the positive solutions.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Okay, thank you.
