solve for x --> (4)/(3x+2) ≥ 0 i don't understand the concept and need an explanation...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

you'll solve the same way as you would a regular linear equation except you don't have an equal sign...you have a >= sign

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i divide both sides by 4? i'm sorry i really don't understand it.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

then how do i get rid of the fraction?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

what stumps is that the x is in the denominator

OpenStudy (anonymous):

if you divide both sides by 4 your left with just 3x+2>=0

OpenStudy (anonymous):

because the 4 on the left will cancel and on the right 0/4 is still 0

OpenStudy (anonymous):

how does 1/(3x+2) become 3x+2?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

hagn on i'll try and find a good way to explain it

OpenStudy (anonymous):

see it doesn't become 1/3x+2....it basically busts the fraction out

OpenStudy (anonymous):

and you can do it in reverse....like if i have 3x+2 / 4 > 0...i can multiply out the 4 and get just 3x+2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

dividing is inverting and multiplying

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so what happens for 1/3x+2 to just flip?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

u don't have 1/3x+2....you have just 3x+2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

now you just solve for x...move the 2 over to make it -2 and divide by 3

OpenStudy (anonymous):

then it becomes x >= -2/3
