Are 6ab and 4ba like terms? I don't think it is because the variables are in a different order.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes they are. 6ab = 6ba and 4ba=4ab

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yea,, because even though they are in a seprate order they sill end up equaling the same outcome

OpenStudy (anonymous):

6ab means 6*a*b 6ba means 6*b*a Same thing.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Omg it's FIDDLE!!!!!! xD

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Correcto!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I'll give you a medal for noticing it's me shall I ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Ok, thank you. I wasn't sure. Btw how are the both of you? :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

both of us ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Ok, Fiddle. :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

does it make sense - this whole business with 6ab being the same as 6ba ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes they are like terms

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yup, I was just confused because I haven't been doing these in a while.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

OK. So all the below are the same: 5bag = 5gba = 5abg But, the convention is to write the term with the number in front, then the letters, sorted according to alphabetical order: So if we get something like 5bag We would write it as 5abg That way if we always write terms like this - it will be pretty easy to identify like terms. 5bag and 8gab are like terms coz 5abg and 8abg (the same terms) are like terms.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so do you like terms after all this ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yup, as long as it is not a fraction.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I'm sory for replying so long. I'm using the school computer and it takes a minute or so to do something.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

can you give an example of a fraction you really don't like - and explain what you don't like about it ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Um....actually I'm having problems with this hw problem and I have to write out the algebraic model and also solve it with mental math. The algebraic model has a fraction bar and I'm really lost. But heres the sentence/problem: You are given $75 to buy juice for the school dance. Each bottle of juice costs $.75. Write a verbal and an algebraic model to find how many bottles of juice you can buy. Write an equation and use mental math to solve the equation. I got 100 juice as my answer, am I right Fiddle?
