when we look at something very far away are we looking in to the past light takes a time to reach us. so...?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

We look into the past of objects very-very far away, not the the past of our own. When we're looking into distance stars, the light travel to our eyes was from the past.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes, light is purely packets of photons, which are mater, and as such they obey kinematic laws. The distance of one lightyear literally refers to the time it takes this photon to travel in one earth year, but this distance is uncomprehnsibly long and is the distance from stars. So when you look at the galaxies you are actually seeing them as they were millions of years ago.
