4/9+10/15
the answer is 1 and 1/9ths
how did you get that
You have to add them right? I plugged the fractions into my calculator. Then I double checked my answer by setting up my fractions so the denominators were the same.
10/15 can be simplified to 2/3 because both 10 and 15 are divisible by 5. 2/3 is equal to 6/9 . Multiple both 2 and 3 by 3. 6/9 + 4/9 = 10/9 which is the same as 1 and 1/9
okay thanks a lot
to do these by hand you need to find the lcd of 9 and 15 the lcd is the lowest common denominator i e the lowest number into which both 9 and 15 can divide into exactly. 9 = 3 x 3 15 = 3 x 5 two of the 3's are common to both so you only use one of them lcd = 3 x 3 x 5 = 45 now change each fraction so that 45 becomes the denominator 4/9 ;- multiply top and bottom by 5 giving 20/45 10/15:- multiply top and bottom by 3 giving 30/45 so we have 20/45 + 30 / 45 and now as the denominators are the same we just add top numbers; result is 50 / 45 this can be simplified by dividing top bottom by 5 givivg 10/9 or 1 1/9
i could have simplified them first as rbliss did but i wanted to show you the general way of doing these using the lcd as well as the process of simplifying
