Well I don't know about dot product but if you sketch out the vectors of field you will see the y-component cancels out and the x-component is doubled. Hope that helps.
That's what I saw in a tutorial video but was for a rod not a dipole which confusing. The had the same charge this has the opposite ones

Oh yea, the x-components cancel and the y-components double. Got the co-ordinate system switched around
