The number of dry cleaning orders picked up at Sunny Fresh Dry Cleaners was sampled over 12 hour periods. Below is the sample: 142 171 125 91 140 125 97 125 162 142 125 117 89 125 140 128 From this data set, compute the sample mean, median, mode and midrange. Compute the 1st quartile and 3rd and interpret their meanings.

OpenStudy (amistre64):

the quartiles are prolly that most challenging

OpenStudy (amistre64):

once you align these in ascending order; you can determine the quartiles by equating them to percentiles

OpenStudy (amistre64):

Q0 =P0 Q1 = P25 Q2 = P50 Q3 = P75 Q4 - P100

OpenStudy (amistre64):

i count 16 terms; Q1 = P25 soo 16*1/4 = 4, but there is a rule about whole numbers i think; or is it just decimals?

OpenStudy (amistre64):

If L1 is a whole number, the lower quartile is midway between the L1-th value and the next one. so its the average of the 4th and 5th spot

OpenStudy (amistre64):

Q3 = P75 is prolly gonna get you the same results, meaning a whole number. 16*3/4 = 12; so its the averge of the 12th and 13th spots
