what does f(x) mean?
a function of x
which means...?
function of.
which means function of.
whats the point of saying f(x) then? why don't you just say x?
function of x where x is the indepenadnt variable
function of x
lol
\[f(x) = x^2\]
is an example
function=machine a function is a machine acting on x let x=something you put into a machine and let f(x)=be the output of that machine let x=water+coffee beans you put it into the machine (function) f and you get f(x)=coffee
people (mathematicians) have been discussing this for years. your best bet it to google it and come up with an explanation that you like and understand
i like my explanation
f is the coffee maker in my explanation
or you can say the coffee maker is the function
but if you are seeing this for the very first time my guess is it will look something like \[f(x)=x^2+4x\] in which case you are supposed to understand that \[f(3)=3^2+4\times 3\] etc @myininaya i am sure your explanation is the best. but still...
yes see that x that x is your watter+coffee beans and what it spits out which is x^2+4x is your coffee
we always start out abstract and then the next thing you know it is polynomials, rational functions, root functions, trig, logs. blah blah blah
i want some coffee now
me too. i have some made back later
