if a/b > 0, then a>0 and b>0 true or false????

OpenStudy (luffingsails):

consider a = -1 and b = -2... what is the result of a/b?

OpenStudy (luffingsails):

If I can find one example that proves it wrong... then it is false.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so its false?

OpenStudy (luffingsails):

What is the result of: \[\frac{-1}{-2}=?\]

jhonyy9 (jhonyy9):

false

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok thank you got it

jhonyy9 (jhonyy9):

because -1/-1 =1

OpenStudy (luffingsails):

So, to finish the thought, I gave you an example where a < 0 and b < 0, yet a/b > 0. This proved the original suppositions false. Hope that helps.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

it does thnx
