how to you add exponents with different degrees?

OpenStudy (amistre64):

add exponents with different degrees?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes

OpenStudy (amistre64):

example please

OpenStudy (anonymous):

2x squared minus (or add) x squared

OpenStudy (amistre64):

\[2x^2\pm x^2\]

OpenStudy (amistre64):

when adding/subtracting. exponents act like any other term; the are just apart of the x at the moment

OpenStudy (amistre64):

x^2 (2+1) = 3x^2 x^2 (2-1) = 1x^2

OpenStudy (amistre64):

in other words: 2x^2 = x^2 + x^2 x^2 = x^2 x^2 + x^2 + x^2 = 3x^2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Thankyou SO much

OpenStudy (amistre64):

yep
