a ball is tossed into the air from a bridge, and its height, y in feet, above the ground t seconds after it is thrown is given by y=f(t)=-16t^2+50t+36. A)what is the average velocity of the ball at t=1second? B)Approximate the velocity of the ball at t=1 second.

Are you using calculus yet? Just want to see where you are at and what tools you have.

OpenStudy (luffingsails):

For average velocity, use the formula average velocity = (total distance traveled) / (total time)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yeah im in calculus right now

OpenStudy (luffingsails):

Okay, we'll the first comment can be used for average velocity. Given the distance formula, you can take the first derivative of that to get the velocity formula. So, take the derivative and substitute 1 second. I believe that it will be approximate because we lack the information regarding drag on the object. Hope that helps.
