I just found another MIT OCW class that could compliment this one, it may appeal to those who are intimidated by the math in 6.0: http://ocw.mit.edu/courses/electrical-engineering-and-computer-science/6-189-a-gentle-introduction-to-programming-using-python-january-iap-2008/index.htm

OpenStudy (shriram):

Also codingbat.com will help make it easy with small and simple exercises in Python language

OpenStudy (shriram):

http://codingbat.com/about.html created by Nick Parlante who is computer science lecturer at Stanford. The coding problems give immediate feedback, so it's an opportunity to practice and solidify understanding of the concepts

And I saw you can learn Java at codingbat, too. Very cool!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thanks for this.

OpenStudy (shriram):

@JulieNewbie Yes, completely agree. I just read today in about section of it that it was known as javabat and then they changed it to codingbat with introduction of python. Very welcome. I always ignored 'javabat' in the past when I heard about it. I thought what does Java have to do with bats? @agdgdgdgwngo: you're welcome

There is a similar ocw course for c++ posted on ocw's facebook page.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The C++ course is just a collection of lecture handouts right now :-(

Ahhh yes, lecture notes and assignments.
