PROBABILITY HELP PLEASE!!! The probability of rain on Thanksgiving day in Boston is 0.70. The probability of rain on Thanksgiving day in Honolulu is 0.28. What is the probability that it rains in Boston OR Honolulu on Thanksgiving Day? Make sure you only account for the scenario on which BOTH Boston and Honolulu get rain on Thanksgiving Day once.

I am sooo stuck on probability! HELP PLEASE!!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Not sure if I should multiply them or what!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

the inclusive OR is "it either rains in Bos or Hono or both Bos and Hon. "or" translates to addition, and "and" translates to mutliplication in probability Let B be the event rains in Boston; H be the event that it rains in Honolulu Then P(B or H) = P(B) + P(H) - P(B and H) = .70 + .28 -.70*.28=.784

OpenStudy (amistre64):

OR means addition

OpenStudy (anonymous):

that's what I wrote

OpenStudy (amistre64):

yes it is :)
