Rounding significant figures example: 5.37 rounds to 5.4 5.34 rounds to 5.3 5.35 rounds to 5.4 5.349 rounds to 5.3 "Notice in the last example that the last (or leftmost) digit being dropped determines in which direction to round - ignore all digits to the right of it" --------- ^ I do not understand that. Can someone explain this in other words please?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

it is saying that when you are rounding numbers, you just look at the number that directly follows it. in this case, 5.349 is rounded to one decimal place. you only need to look at the number that follows "3", which is "4". you don't need to worry about the "9" that follows.

Understood. So the 9 has no impact on the number just after the decimal place, in this case?

yup
