Lagrange Multipliers-System of Equations.....Could someone walk me through solving the system of equations y=z2x, x=z4y, (x^2)+2(y^2)=1

OpenStudy (amistre64):

your just adding in an extra variable, the L and solving for partials

OpenStudy (anonymous):

what happened with that problem from last night?

OpenStudy (amistre64):

y=z2x, x=z4y, what do these mean?

OpenStudy (amistre64):

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ry9cgNx1QV8 this guy i think is one of the easiest to understand

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I just used z instead of lambda....when I have the calculator solve the system i get the correct answer...I just can not get there on my own. Lagrangeson- this is the question from last night

find the points on the ellipse x^2 + 2y^2=1 where f(x,y)= xy has its extreme values.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

This is calculus multi variable right

OpenStudy (anonymous):

(±1/2√,1/2),(±1/2√,−1/2) is the correct answer

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes sir
