Someone please explain to me kingdom monera

OpenStudy (anonymous):

All of the the organisms in this kingdom are prokaryotes. they dont have a nucleus the cell walls are made of peptidoglycan except archaebacteria you should actually ask for an explanation of the kingdoms archaebacteria and eubacteria because the kingdom monera has been split into these two kingdoms

OpenStudy (anonymous):

archaebacteria: found in extreme conditions (volcanoes, sea trenches) dont have peptidoglycan heres a good site http://www.differencebetween.net/science/health/difference-between-eubacteria-and-archaebacteria/

OpenStudy (trancenova):

Yes, the kingdom monera is no longer adopted, but there is some confusion over this. Anyway "The kingdom Monera includes the bacteria and the cyanobacteria. These one-celled organisms are prokaryotic. Prokaryotic organisms have neither nucleus nor organelles in their cytoplasm, possess only a single chromosome, have small ribosomes, and reproduce by simple fission. Many of the organisms (called autotrophic) can synthesize their own foods, and some (called heterotrophic) digest preformed organic matter." From: http://www.cliffsnotes.com/study_guide/Kingdoms-of-Living-Things.topicArticleId-8741,articleId-8651.html It is no longer used in the 6-kingdom system but monera was generally used to describe prokaryotes. (see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kingdom_%28biology%29 for kingdom stuff)
