(x-9)^2=81

OpenStudy (anonymous):

x^2-18x +81=81 x^2-18x=0 x(x-18)=0 x=0 or 18

OpenStudy (anonymous):

assuming you want the zero's of the equation

OpenStudy (anonymous):

wait how did u get 81 on the other side and its still there on the original side

OpenStudy (anonymous):

foil the (x-9)^2 you get x^2-18x+81

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh okay then where do u get the x^2-18x=0

OpenStudy (diyadiya):

x^2-18x+81 =81 x^2-18x+81-81=0 x^2-18x=0 (-81 + 81=0)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

foiling, (x-9)^2 is equal to (x-9)(x-9) so when foiling this you multiply the first terms, plus the product of the outside terms plus the product of the inside terms plus the product of the last terms

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ohhhh okayyy thankkk you! sorry i got confused! umm on the x(x-18) the x=0 what if there was like 2x(x-18) would 2x=0 or ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes, you solve to get the equation equal to 0, then try to factor the side that has the stuff on it (very technical term) and set it equal to 0. so if it had been 2x(x-18)=0 it would be 2x=0 or x-18=0

ok thanks!!!
