So y < 90 Add the two inequalities to get x+y < 90+90 x+y < 180 So the sum will always be less than 180 degrees. So x and y cannot be supplementary. A counterexample: 30 and 80 are acute angles, but 30+80 = 110 which is NOT 180 degrees
