Can somebody help me with "three-link" chain rule?
I'm having a hard time with "three-link" chains:
Find the derivative of g(t)=tan (5-sin2t)
Why is it called "three-link" chain anyway?

tan()
sin() thats 2

well, 2t might be the third

t
2t
-sin(2t)
5-sin(2t)
tan(5-sin(2t))

why its has to be restricted to 3, i got no idea, might be material specific tho

f'(g(h(x))*g'(g(h(x))*h'(x)?

OpenStudy (amistre64):
tan() = sec^2()
5-sin(2t) = cos(2t)
2t = 2
sec^2(5-cos(2t)) * 2sin(2t)

Where did the 5 from (5-cost(2t)) come from?
14 years ago
OpenStudy (amistre64):
tan (5-sin(2t)) <-- you posted it in the problem

the innard in the chain rule stay the same; what pops out is the derivative of the innards

tan (5-sin(2t))
sec^2(5-sin(2t)) * cos(2t) * 2

How would you know that the 3 "links" are tan (), 5-sin2t, and 2t? Why couldn't it be sin2t instead of 2t?

just because
