The question is wrong. The Egyptians used Hieroglyphic writing...yes, but that term is is not used to describe Sumerian writing. The Sumerians on the other hand used a combination of pictographic writing and script which became known of Cuneiform. Since the Egyptians did NOT use Cuneiform, it cannot be Cuneiform, but since the Sumerians did not use Hieroglyphics it cannot be A. And Neither C or D are correct either.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

cuneiform is derived from the latin words cuneus, meaning wedge and forma meaning shape. the writing in the ancient world was done on a piece of clay carefully patted and smoothened into a tablet form. the scribe would use a sharp end of a reed cut obliquely, he would press wedge shaped cuneiform signs on to the moist clay and then would let it dry afterwards. by 2600 bc the letters became cuneiform, and the language sumerian.but even after the sumerian language became obsolete, cunieform writing continued.
