why is it nobody uses the improved version of the quotient rule for the derivative (u/(v^n))'=(vu'-nuv')/(v^(n+1)) ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i use that rule. I and like to remeber it by low d hi - hi d low all over d^2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

well I use part of that

OpenStudy (anonymous):

the idea is that instead of d^2 for d^n one always gets d^(n+1)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yea I realized that after I looked back at it. But that makes more sense to do it that, but teachers or at least mine did not teach it that way.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thats actually the question, why don't they? the formula is way more useful and not that different from the original

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Hmmm I am not sure. Maybe it is because people do not like change or they do not believe that students will understand that as well. Because non math majors or people who do not like math, have a hard time reading math language. I have hard time reading it a lot of times.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

might be true, in any case there is no reason for medium+good math students not to learn it

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I completely agree. Maybe soon they will change. :)
