how do u find f(x) and a when a point is not given? like the limit of sqrt(36 +h) -6/h, as h approaches 0

OpenStudy (zarkon):

\[f(x)=\sqrt{x}\text{ and }a=36\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

how did u come to that answer?

OpenStudy (zarkon):

it looks like you are taking a derivative using the definition. \[\lim_{h\to0}\frac{f(a+h)-f(a)}{h}\] replace f and a with what I have written above

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i understand how u arrived at 36 for a, but how do u get sqrt(x) for f?
