x=y-2;x+3y=2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

y=1, x=-1

OpenStudy (anonymous):

How did you get that?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

x+3y=2 Since we know x=y-2, we can plug that into our equation and solve for y (y-2)+3y=2 y+3y=4 4y=4 y=1 the plug that back into the other equation x=y-2 x=(1)-2 x=-1

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so you add 2 to both sides?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yeah

OpenStudy (anonymous):

(y-2)+3y=2 +2 +2 y+3y=4 4y=4 y=1 the plug that back into the other equation x=y-2 x=(1)-2 x=-1

OpenStudy (anonymous):

x=y-2 ===> x-y =-2 ;x+3y=2 ===> subtractthe 2 equations ==>-3y=-4 ==> y =4/3 ===> subtitute in the first equatiom ===> x=4/3 -2 = -2/3

thank you, thats very helpful
