x+2=16

OpenStudy (anonymous):

but that does not equal a negative 4?

excellent catch makenna; there is no solution to this equation\[\sqrt{x+2}\ge0\]radicals are never negative, so how can a radical equal a negative number? it can't. if you don't catch that relationship before you make any algebraic manipulations, you then do exactly what you tried to do... sub the "answer" into the equation to see if it it works, and you found out that it didn't. Answer = no solution
