1. Find the area of each of the following figures. Round your answer to the nearest tenth. Show all work.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Just find the formula's of the area's of the figures and fill in the numbers. For example: 1) it's a triangle, area = ½ * height * length = ½ * 4in * 15in = .... (calculate) 2) it's a circle, area = 2 * pi * r, you see the diameter is 8cm, diameter d = 2* r. Now calculate r first, then calculate the area. 3) it's a parallelogram, area = height * length 4) it's a trapezoid, area = ½ * height * length side 1 * length side 2 Now you can finish this by yourself.

UMM EXCUSE ME CAN U PLEASE DO THE REST CUZ IM ONLY AN THE 8TH GRADE AND THIS IS GEOMETRY I DONT UNDERSTAND NOTHING PLZ HELP

OpenStudy (anonymous):

IM SORRY FOR PUTTING YOU THREW THIS BUT PLZ CAN U HELP

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes, but there's no point in giving you the answers. Read what I read above and tell me what part you don't understand, we'll do it step by step. Start by typing without capslock ;)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

what I wrote above*

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ohh sorry about that

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i dnt understand none of that im suppose to be taken algebra still

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i thought youtake geometry and high school

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Let's do the first one. Do you recognize it's a triangle? What is the height and what is the length ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes i see its a triangle that says 4 inches in the inside and 15inches on the out side

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The vertical one is the height, and the horizontal one is the length. Now the area can be calculated using this formula: area triangle = ½ * height * length. Fill in this formula with the correct height and length, then calculate.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

soo 1/2*4in*15in but how do i calculate with the half

OpenStudy (anonymous):

first do 4 times 15, can you do that?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

60

OpenStudy (anonymous):

then do ½ * 60, which is the same as dividing 60 by 2: 60/2 =

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so divide 60 by 2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes, what is that?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

30

OpenStudy (anonymous):

There you have it, you did: ½ * 4 * 15 = ½ * 60 = 30 The area = 30inch.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

now how do i round it to the nearest 10th

OpenStudy (anonymous):

mr. simon

OpenStudy (anonymous):

That is only needed if you have a decimal in your answer, which you do not have. If your answer would be 30.25, then you would have to round till 1 digit after the period, thus rounding to 30.3 (you know how rounding works right)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ohh okay but why does it tell me too in my question well lets move on too number2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

it tells you too just in case you get a decimal answer. Number two: it's a circle. Can you see the diameter? How long is it? The formula of circle diameter is: 2 * r (r means radius). The foruma of area of a circle is: 2 * pi * r. So you only know the diameter, and you don't know the radius yet. Can you solve this now? If you don't know what 'pi' is, you can google it. For now use this value for pi: 3,14159265.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so 2*3,14159265*what?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

wait diameter=8cm so radius =4cm

OpenStudy (anonymous):

and pi is 3.14159 so 2*3.14159*4cm 25.13272 i dont know just give me the soulution

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes, that is correct! Now you have 25.13272, round this to 1 digit.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

dont knw

OpenStudy (anonymous):

When rounding to tenth (1 digit after period), you look at the 2nd decimal (2nd digit after the period), if that is 5 or higher, then you raise the number of the 1st decimal by one, else you keep that number. For example: 25.25 becomes 25.3 (because 2nd decimal is 5), 25.24 becomes 25.2 (because 2nd decimal is lower than 5). 25.37 becomes 25.4 (becaomse 2nd decimal is higher than 5). You have 25.13, your second decimal is 3, so what's the rounded number?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

is it 25.1

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Good! From here you can do the others right? The area of the 3rd figure (parallelogram) = heigth * length. The area of the 4rth (trapezoid) = ½ heigth * length of short side * length of long side

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yea i think i just would need you tocheck to see f its right

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yea, go ahead and type it here (full formula, not just the answers). And hit the 'good answer' button if you are satisfied with my help.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

height*length 7*22=154 3rd figure

OpenStudy (anonymous):

and i need help with the last one

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Ok, that one is right! The last one is, area: ½ * height * length short side * length long side. You see three values, the vertical one is the height again, so height = 7mm. There are two lengths given, one for the short side and one for the long side. The length of the short side is 5 mm, the length of the long side is 7mm. Putting this in the formula: ½ * 7mm * 5 mm * 7mm = (first you do the easiest calculation: 5*7) ½ * 7mm * 35mm = (then the next, 7*35) ½ * 245 = (divide 245 by 2) 122 ½ or 122.5 (no need to round anymore, because there is only 1 decimal, which is what we want).

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Do you understand what I wrote there?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes so thats the answer and we dnt need to round the answer
