http://i180.photobucket.com/albums/x279/chickxoxox17/graph1.png FACTORING MY GRAPHING! I DON'T UNDERSTAND!!! PLEASE HELP ME

OpenStudy (anonymous):

the graph intersects the x-axis in two places, do you see that ? what are those two places ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

at what values of x ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

x = -5 x = -3 Since its a quadratic its an order 2. Therefore: (x+5)(x+3)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so the answer is 2?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

let's go back a bit.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I see the lines are on -5 & -3 , but i don't know whats the answer ... yeah please help..

OpenStudy (anonymous):

the graph you posted represnts an equation. y=f(x) i.e. you get values of y, by plugging values of x into the function. in your specific example this is the function: y=(x+3)(x+5)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

in the graph you see that the red line crosses the horizontal axis in two locations.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

one is where x=-3 and the other where x=-5 at these two points , y=0 right ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

OH!! I see. but why is the equation adding instead of Subtraction

OpenStudy (anonymous):

your right y=0

OpenStudy (anonymous):

well, look at this equation y=(x+5)*(x+3) at what values of x would y be 0 ?
