Why is 5/0 underfined?

OpenStudy (saifoo.khan):

Yesh!

OpenStudy (amistre64):

becasue there is no way to define it so that it has a consitent meaning

OpenStudy (amistre64):

lol under defined

myininaya (myininaya):

we don't allow division by 0 its a rule

OpenStudy (amistre64):

in order for math to be consistent and usable, we have to omit the stuff that just dont plain make any sense

OpenStudy (amistre64):

how may 0s make 5?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

infinity.

OpenStudy (stormfire1):

5/0 is undefined because division is defined as the inverse of multiplication. 5/0 = 0 but flipping the equation around would show you that 0 * 0 does not equal 5.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

wow, that is the best answer ever! I now know everything about mathematics!!! Thank you.

OpenStudy (stormfire1):

heh, np

OpenStudy (anonymous):

LOL
