OpenStudy (amistre64):

Am i reading this wrong? |x| represents the absolute value of x, which equals x if; x>=0 and equals -x if; x<0. straight from the textbook i tell you.....

OpenStudy (across):

That definition is correct.

OpenStudy (amistre64):

|x| = x and |-x| = -x ???

OpenStudy (across):

Let \[x=-4\]Since \[x<0\]it follows that \[|x|=-x=-(-4)=4\]

OpenStudy (amistre64):

or ... im reading it wrong :/ ohh .... so if x is already negative than it equals the negation of the negative ...

OpenStudy (amistre64):

thats better lol

OpenStudy (amistre64):

The math i can do, when they start cluttering it up with all this word stuff ..... im too old for this kinda stress :)
