How do you feel about the lectures? I have a lot of trouble absorbing much from lectures...perhaps just the way I learn. How important do you think it is I watch them? or can I browse the transcripts?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i would say it's up to you and the way you learn. For me i think the lectures are best part of this course. I think the professors are fantastic they give clear explanations and make the subject even more interesting. Maybe you should put some more work in and go through the reading list before every lecture so that you know the necessary background. Also nobody said you need to complete the lecture in 50mins. Feel free to pause it and go slower until you understand all the points. something you can not do when you are actually in a lecture theater.

Yeah. It's great how the professors talk slow enough for us non-MIT geniuses who don't have an IQ of 150+ to easily follow.

Ditto what LuckyFOOL said. Whenever I come to a new concept in a lecture, I pause it & google it to get any necessary background I may be missing. Most of my "aha" moments have been while reading texts and during discussions in this group. But I have had several important issues cleared up by points in the lectures.

I read the transcripts while the video loads. If there is any point where the context is unclear due to problems being worked out interactively, then I jump to that location and view the material. Otherwise I don't bother watching the video. I don't miss anything, and I save 30 minutes to boot. Your mileage may vary.

Thanks everyone! I have been browsing the videos, and in this course they are not too bad. I find being able to pause - rewind - etc does help in my absorbtion of the material. I only watch when I am attentive and it helps as opposed to being forced to sit through a lecture when I have other stuff on my brain.
