OpenStudy (anonymous):

what is phagocytosis and what is the involvement of organelles in this process?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Phagocytosis is the process whereby cells engulf particles by effectively forming a vesicle around the substance with their membrane termed a 'phagosome'. This is then internalized into the cell where it fuses with lysosomes thereby destroying the substance. An example of this is macrophages engulfing bacteria as part of the immune response

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Some cells (think unicellular bacteria or protists like amoebas) can also engulf things with the whole cell. I guess the organelle used in that process would be the cell membrane.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Lysosome is the organelle involved, the cell membrane is technically not a organelle. I suppose you can consider the phagosome an organelle
