what do mitiochondria do?

OpenStudy (fools101):

do u mean mitochondria? or is it mitiochondria?

OpenStudy (fools101):

because if it is mitochondria then it is Cell Biology . an organelle in the cytoplasm of cells that functions in energy production. I hope this helps! ^ ^

OpenStudy (anonymous):

it's the powerhouse of the cell...

OpenStudy (ookawaiioo):

The mitochondria is the energy source/producer within the cell. It has a different DNA than the nucleus. Going in depth with the energy production of how the mitochondria produce energy is thru the electron transport chain. The cofactor NADH and FADH2 get oxidized [lose a bond to hydrogen], and the hydrogen is lose into the intermembrane of the mitochondria. ADP and Pi will form to become ATP [main energy source of the cell] by the proton [H+] that is pumped into the ATP syntase. This process is called oxidative phosphorylation. NADH will produce 2-3 ATPs and FADH2 will produce 2 ATPs.

Mitochondria is a cell that breaks down glucose and produces ATP for energy
