How do you calulate the slope of a line using Rise/Run?

OpenStudy (amistre64):

measure how it rises in respect to how far it runs

OpenStudy (anonymous):

can you draw somethin out i dont quite comprehend.

OpenStudy (amistre64):

the y axis is vertical; so we can measure rise the x axis is horizontal; so we can measure run (the change in y)/(change in x) = slope

i really dont understand, i thought a slope was just 1 diagonal line?
