"Why must n be even when using Simpsons Rule?"

OpenStudy (anonymous):

because of homer! hahaha

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i have to show an example...

OpenStudy (stormfire1):

It has to be even because you need to divide the interval into an equal number of parts

OpenStudy (anonymous):

but why can't you divide it into an odd number of parts like when you do the trapezoidal rule?

OpenStudy (stormfire1):

I'm no math major so all I know is that it just won't work :) There's another version of the Simspon's rule for that...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yah the 3/8 rule, I read about it :)
