5X10^4
1x10^7
5x10^11

Scientific Notation..
OpenStudy (anonymous):
huh?
OpenStudy (anonymous):
Dont you have to do some scientific notation in this ?
OpenStudy (anonymous):
Like the first two terms?

5.00000000000

5x10^-11
0.00000000005

It depends, what are the instructions in the book?

Im a little confused. But it says here. to write the number you get in scientific notation.
OpenStudy (anonymous):
what number do you have to write in scientific notation?
OpenStudy (anonymous):
5 & 1
OpenStudy (anonymous):
well 5 x 1 is 5 .
OpenStudy (anonymous):
all you need to do with your exponents is add them. When you multiply, you add the exponents, (your 4 & 7)

But I have to do in scientific notation
OpenStudy (anonymous):
but when adding or subtracting! you only add like terms, like if you had ad 5x^7 + 3x^8 + 2x^8 you would only add the 3x+2x which is 5x and then ^8
OpenStudy (anonymous):
Of course your going to add 4 & 7 I know that . But im unsure what to do with 5 .
OpenStudy (anonymous):
would it be 0.005?
OpenStudy (anonymous):
if it was negative

then it would be 5x10^-3
OpenStudy (anonymous):
10^4 so it's a positive, you move that by your 5 right 4 spots, so .0005
OpenStudy (anonymous):
no to the left it would be 4,000
OpenStudy (anonymous):
.0000001 for your 1x10^7
OpenStudy (anonymous):
right is negative

i thought right was positive?!
OpenStudy (anonymous):
negative i have my algebra book open
OpenStudy (anonymous):
so then 50000. since you would start with it as 5. and then move the decimal 4 spots
OpenStudy (anonymous):
5 = 5.0 10^4= 000 plus the 5 with the 0
OpenStudy (anonymous):
50,000
