I would like to use a line of dialogue in my paper. Is it necessary to use three quotations marks in order to show that it is a quote within a quote? Nick Veenhof said, “’—No lie, she actually kicked the goddang bucket’”(O’Brien 237).
You could put it like this... O'Brian quoted Nick Veenhof as saying "-No lie, she actually kicked the goddang bucket."
That way, you wouldn't need the citation at the end, either, because it's in the sentence.
So I don't need "'--No lie, she actually kicked thegoddanbucket'" (with three quote marks?
No. I think it's too confusing to the reader that way.
good point, thanks for the wisdom! I can see clearly now! I appreciate all the help and am glad you came to my rescue. I was a damsel in distress and you saved me. My English teacher is very appreciative and loves this site! I was lost but now I am found...:D
