Can anyone help me. Not done any maths since 95' at uni. I need to find both density and mass (I know density= mass/volume) but I only have area data. I know volume = area x depth. Any ideas people?

please be more specific ..also there is in fact area density where density = mass/area
OpenStudy (unklerhaukus):
If you know the shape and the area you can calculate the volume
OpenStudy (anonymous):
unequal (lengths and angles) 6 sided shape. calculated area by dividing up into triangles.
OpenStudy (unklerhaukus):
so it is a 2-dimensional shape?
OpenStudy (anonymous):
yes

so divide mass by area ..
OpenStudy (unklerhaukus):
then it has no volume; and thus no density
OpenStudy (unklerhaukus):
i guess i must be area density like Coolsector is saying
OpenStudy (anonymous):
ok but i only have the area data not mass.
OpenStudy (unklerhaukus):
do you know the material the surface is made of?

plastic
OpenStudy (unklerhaukus):
then it has a 3rd dimension
OpenStudy (anonymous):
oops! sorry. told you it had been a while.

laptop crashed. so material is plastic and it has a 3rd dimension. what is the next step?
