Fun Fact #52: Only plants conduct photosynthesis! Not so! I hear you holler from across the room, algae photosynthesise too! Well dinoflagellates, ciliates, foraminifera AND some sea slugs can also photosynthesise with a process known as kleptoplasty. This process is where a predator munches upon a photosynthetic organism, disgests everything except the chloroplasts. Then it uses these chloroplasts to produce food. Some need to steal chloroplasts often but others are able to maintain thier plastids and retain them over time.
