Where does the starch in a potato comes from?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

it is stored in the cotyledon??

OpenStudy (trancenova):

No, not the cotyledons. The leaves of the potato plant produce starch through photosynthesis which is then transported to the forming potato where it forms starch.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

To follow Trance; The starch acts as an energy store, similar to our glucose, but the plants are anabolic and create energy for later use so that is the reason for it creating the more complex energy storage molecule

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The starch is stored in the storage parenchima, in the amyloplasts [a kind of leucoplast specialized on starch storage)].
