None of the fractions have a common denominator which would allow you to add them. So a common denominator is required. Sometimes it is easier just to multiply all of the denominators together to get a common one. That works until you get a large number. In this case, 9, 3, and 15 have a common product of 45. So that will be used for the common denominator. Multiply each fraction by the fraction that will yield a denominator of 45. The fraction is equal to one but this what you need to do. (2/9) * (5/5) + (1/3) * (15/15) + (4/15) * (3/3) So now you have: 10/45 + 15/45 + 12/45 = 37/45
