why is the water blue? Has it someting to do with Rayleigh scattering?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

HAHAHA your really stupid, water isn´t blue, im a scientist at University Colombia and I can tell you water is not blue, stay tuned so I can answere you

OpenStudy (anonymous):

No I am not a doctor, stop wasting your time here

OpenStudy (experimentx):

water is not blue .. it seems that water transmits and reflects blue light only.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

but has it something to do with Rayleigh Scattering, like in the atmosphere?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

A combination of the seven colours of the rainbow fall on the water surface. But out of this, blue and violet are the most reflected colours. So water appears blue.

OpenStudy (experimentx):

any theory behind this relating spectroscopy??

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Blue light travels faster than all the other colours, something to do with the speed of the lightwaves. So the sky - as we see it, is blue during the day and then gets orangey towards the sunset. Water reflects the blue sky.
