2. A public health researcher examines the medical records of a large sample of men who died in 1999. Of this sample, she finds that 22.4% died with heart disease. Further, she finds that one third of the men in the sample had at least one parent with heart disease, and of this latter group, 32.7% died of heart disease. a) What percentage of men in the sample died of heart disease and neither parent had heart disease?
Say you had 100 people in the sample. 22 of them died of heart disease. 33 of the patients had one parent with heart disease. 32.7% of them died. So 32.7% of 33 is 11ish. That means 22-11=11 people who died who did not have parents with heart disease which is about 10%.
11 is about 10% of 100, I meant to say. Which is the answer.
thank you!
