Solve 2x^2 - 14x - 20 = 0.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

2(x-2)(x-5)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i would start by factoring out a 2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I have to solve it using the quadratic formula. Not by factoring.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay then use the formula with a=2, b=-14 and c=-20

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The original question is 2x^2 = 14x +20.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thats fine, still apply the formula using a=2, b=-14 and c=-20

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Then wouldn't it be 2x^2 -14x -20 = 0 ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes exactly, so what is the problem?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

That's not one of my choices for the answers.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

what this problem is telling you is to find the root of this polynomial x=?, x=?. Also you said that you needed to use the quadratice formula to factor (although you could simly factor without using it as well). So , just use the formula

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Alright. Thank youu

OpenStudy (anonymous):

you know how to use the formula right?
