What is the difference between chemical and electrical gradient? When defined, they both sound very similar; is there a way to distinguish between the two?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

chemical gradient is a gradient form by the difference in concentration of a certain type of solute in an universal solvent. eg : salt in water. electrical gradient is caused by the difference between the electrical potential of a given solute in an universal solvent. basically, if the chemical that establishes the chemical gradient is electrically charged. then the difference in the charge over the barrier will create an electrical gradient.
