how do you know which way to shade the number line based on the inequality?

OpenStudy (saifoo.khan):

if, y > so shade upper part of the line. If, y < so shade the lower part.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Pick a point either above or below the line, such as 0,0. Plug that into your inequality. If true, shade. IF not, shade the opposite side.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

test a point on the equation, if it passes, then color tat area, if it does not, shade opposite side!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

wait.. how do you test the point?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

plug a point into the original equation

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Plug in the X value for X and the Y value for Y. Example: y> x+3 Plug in the point 0,0.... 0>0+3. This is FALSE. Thus, shade the other side of the line where (0,0) is not.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok.. I see your point.. I'll figure it oiut

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thanks

OpenStudy (anonymous):

give me an equation...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

y >x + 3

OpenStudy (anonymous):

can you draw it out for me goodman?
